Question: Have you ever bought a book because of a bad review?
I have... but not just because of a bad review. I usually read the bad as well as the good before buying a book, because I like to hear both sides. Often the things being criticised are actually plus points in my view, e.g. I like books that are very fast paced, and that often crops up as a negative. So some negative reviews make a positive contribution to my decision to buy.

I like the negative reviews with the positive ones too. Like you, usually some of the "negatives" are actually things I like :)

I agree, it all depends on what you like in a book so a bad review might say something you like or visa versa.

I agree wit hyou - I will read both the good and the bad and make my decision by weighing them both to try to figure out whether or not the book will appeal to my personal tastes. (Well, this is when I actually read the reviews - sometimes I just go straight to purchase and wait to see where the chips fall!)
I agree - sometimes things that others dislike are exactly the things that I like reading about.

I can't say that I've read one because of a bad review, but I do buy them regardless. I like to always give a book a chance no matter if it's gotten a thousand negative reviews and only one positive. Because a lot of the time I find myself loving books that most people disliked and disliking books a ton of people loved.

New follower. I wouldn't buy a book just because it has bad reviews, but I have read book with bad reviews and loved them. For me it is based on the author and the book.

As I said on my blog, I usually don’t read reviews. If it’s a book that’s on my TBR or wishlist, I simply ignore it because I don’t want to be influenced by someone else’s review before I read the book by myself. Then, after I finish reading the book I go back and read the review. If it’s a book I have no interest on reading I may read a review, but I usually skip it.

Great point! I didn't like LoTR because of all the descriptive scenery and extensive world-building, so they would have been a super-low rating from me. Other people absolutely love that kind of detail! It's always best to make up your own mind :)

That's right! Sometimes I look for both kinds of review, too. It's nice seeing things from different perspectives. Although I'm usually a bit weary because of spoilers, but still.
