Looking For Trouble (Sal Kilkenny #1)
by Cath Staincliffe
My rating:

Mystery/ThrillerI came across the Sal Kilkenny books in the Kindle sale, and though I'd never heard of this series or the author, I thought I'd give this first one a try - ideally, in time to decide whether I wanted to buy them all on discount! So I picked it up... and, well, I really didn't want to put it down again.
Private investigator Sal is a wonderful character, so preoccupied by the trials of everyday life (a young daughter, cash flow issues, and a troublesome tenant) that she doesn't quite realise how much trouble she's getting herself into until it's too late. What should have been a routine job, tracing a young runaway, suddenly seems to relate to a murder, and Sal had sworn she'd stay away from violent cases to keep her work comparatively safe. However, letting go is harder than it sounds, and as the plot progresses the stakes get higher and higher.
The supporting characters are equally realistic and well developed. I was particularly fond of teenager Leanne, whose life on the streets was both saddening and sadly believable.
Fantastically absorbing and addictive. Needless to say, I've already bought the sequels.

I didn't think I was really into thrillers but reading your review it may be a genre I need to look into. Maybe take a bit of a break from the fantasy and supernatural stuff for a while.

I like thrillers and suspense and this book sounds great. I am glad you liked it so much that you have already bought the rest of the series. That says a lot. Great review- I look forward to checking out this book.
