Dystopian (Short)In The Forever Contract, young people are signing their lives away in exchange for an eternity of artificial life. Casey's birthday is coming up, and she wants to join her brother in the system, but boyfriend James is convinced there must be a catch. She agrees to wait while they try to find out more, and together they set out to investigate.
I enjoyed the story and characters, but it's hard to develop a complex world in such a short story, and various aspects weren't really explained to my satisfaction. The ending was rather abrupt, with everything suddenly wrapped up in the last couple of pages. An entertaining read, but I would have loved to see more depth - this premise could easily fill a full-length novel.
