Requiem for a Mezzo (Daisy Dalrymple #3)My rating: Mystery
by Carola Dunn
Requiem for a Mezzo is Daisy's third murder, and I definitely have a new favourite series here, for when I need a lighthearted mystery to take my mind off the stresses (or literal headaches) of a tough day. This time the story begins with Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher in a rare off-duty moment, accompanying Daisy to the opera, but it probably goes without saying that their quiet evening out is interrupted by a sudden death.
While Alec jumps up to organise the official response, Daisy is in her element, left with a full opera-cast of suspects to quiz informally. There's no shortage of motives, as hardly anyone besides her husband cared for the murdered woman, so there are plenty of stories for Daisy to uncover, and enough layers of mystery to keep me guessing.
